Sally Werst McKeen

A Loving Daughter Gives Back

“I just don’t know what I’m going to do about Daddy.”

Sally Werst McKeen spoke these words nearly 30 years ago during a very difficult time in her life. Her beloved father had recently been diagnosed with leukemia and given only weeks to live.

“My mother and I just felt so very lost,” she remembers. “This was my father, my best friend and my mentor.”

Sally communicated this to a nurse, who immediately knew what to do. She connected Sally with the hospice service that eventually became Community Healthcare of Texas (CHOT).

“They provided all kinds of support to my father, but even more support to my mother and me,” Sally says. “It was the most compassionate, caring relationship that I had ever experienced.”

Decades later, Sally remains as devoted as ever to CHOT.

“My relationship with Community Healthcare of Texas has been long-lasting and life enriching,” Sally says.

She has supported CHOT as a board member, including as chairwoman, and has also made generous financial contributions.

“This organization has enriched our lives so much,” Sally says, noting that CHOT provided “beautiful care” when her mother’s health was failing rapidly. Sally’s gifts to CHOT honor her parents’ memories while providing other families with the support they need, when they need it most.

In recognition of Sally’s generosity, which includes a gift in her will, CHOT has introduced the Sally Werst McKeen Legacy Society.

“We are so grateful for Sally’s enduring dedication to Community Healthcare of Texas,” says Viki Jingle, CEO. “We hope others are similarly inspired to make a lasting impact.”

Sally’s own inspiration for giving back as a donor and volunteer began long before her father’s illness.

“We did a lot of philanthropic work together,” she explains. “He was an absolutely precious soul.”
